Mindfulness 101
June 05, 2018

In today’s busy world, what does it mean to be mindful?

Images of beaches and tropical winds might come to mind, or people in complex yoga poses.

Mindful Supply wants to help people think a little differently about how mindfulness might work on an everyday level—particularly for those of us who can’t make it to the beach or the yoga studio every day.

We see mindfulness as a lifestyle, as illustrated by this 30 second video:

Mindfulness isn’t inherently complicated, or even expensive; it’s about making the most out of each small choice that we have. For us at Mindful Supply, we apply this idea by being conscious of how we create our apparel--it’s our way of contributing to a better world. Every Mindful Supply shirt is ethically made (no sweatshop labor here!) and most of our shirts are made in the Carolinas. If you would like to learn more about our ethically made clothes, as well as how to read our labels, check out this post here by our Brand Manager, Sarah Cardman.

Shirts are just one way to practice mindfulness. We want to know what mindfulness means to you: how do you practice it? Or, how do you want to practice it? Leave a comment below to be entered into our first ever blog giveaway—a Mindful Swag Pack (Including a free T-shirt)!

"Good Music Makes Everything Better" Tee shirt, Various Stickers and "Go Your Own Way" hat

I try to focus on only one thing at a time and take deep breaths when I get stressed. I also enjoy walking my dogs and watching the birds in the backyard.

Mindfulness to me is stepping back from the every day hustle of work/life and enjoying the simplicities in life. Specifically, hiking and exploring every weekend my family and I enjoy our time together exploring new places. “Jobs fill your pockets but adventure fills your soul.”

Being mindful for me looks like putting the phone or tech of choice aside to see and hear the person in front of me. Or even setting the task at hand aside to really stop and listen. The truth is no one really likes to feel multi-tasked. We have a family practice of no phones at the table. We are planning to establish more quiet periods in our day without technology, especially before bed.

Spending time in the garden, in nature or at the beach with family. :)

I am working to create mindfulness by cutting down on the noise in my every day. For example, on my morning walk I have stopped listening to music or an audiobook and started enjoying the birds singing and other nature sounds around me.

Perfect timing. I’ve got a cluttered brain these days.

I am mindful of nature around me when I’m out walking or hiking. Noticing the colors, textures, smells, and beauty that the world around me has to offer makes me want to take care of it.

I think mindfulness has to be practiced everyday where it becomes habit. I try to be in the habit everyday to slow down some, pay attention to what is going on around me. I even went so far as to have “be.” tattooed on my wrist to help remind me…be mindful, be present.

Mindful is being aware of what you do or don’t do, what you say or don’t say. I’m trying to be mindful and go by God’s word-. Love one another..

Mindfulness is an awareness of all that is beautiful and joyful in the world— and also the act of sharing it with others

Mindfulness to me means being aware of the mark you are leaving on the world and on the people around you, being present and thoughtful to aspects outside of yourself.

Mindfulness is something I am working on. Unfortunately I experience the Mind Full ness too much. Trying to really focus on the simple things this summer – sunsets, time with family, home made ice cream to name a few.
